Unique, looks very Old Massive Gilded Copper & other metal Bowl with lid

So unusual (at least for me) Bowl with Ring/Lid. Though it is only 3 ¾”H & 5 ¾” dim (bottom 3 ¾” dim), but weigh 2 lbs.8 oz. I don’t understand what it is made from: there is Gilded finish, but under gold colored coat copper is visible, but also under the copper gray metal is visible. Also excellent quality of exterior doesn’t much with “handmade” interior: bottom of lid, inside of bowl & bottom of base are hand hammered. *About the lid: there are look like brown spots at the bottom of lid, but actually it is copper and also you can see spots of gray metal at inside rim of lid.
Wear inside and on the lid looks like from burning and probably it was used as warmer or for some rituals. I was searching over month, no luck. Still have no idea, how old it is and WHAT it is. Please help! DSC01169.JPG DSC01168.JPG DSC01170.JPG DSC01175.JPG DSC01174.JPG DSC01171.JPG DSC01172.JPG DSC01173.JPG DSC01180.JPG DSC01181.JPG

Nicely made cast construction. Possibly gilt over bronze. Not sure what the grey metal is but I do see what you are talking about. You may need to do a scratch test to determine what you have. A small jardinière? Not sure why a jardinière would have the decorative ring top. Otherwise, maybe missing something to make it complete for other use.

I think its missing a wire top , like on a censer ? Wich is what I think it is . Maybe for a family altar thing ?

Yes, looks a little like cuspidor, but mine is too fancy to be a cuspidor and also the lid/ring is a little curved up.

It is what I was thinking about: related to religion or spiritual attributes. Also lid / ring made with completed form / shape. There is no any wear from another parts previously attached to lid and no any spaces just for "sitting / holding" another parts.
I was thinking may be if find what decor style is (for me it looks like Gothic decor) it would help to find how old this item is.

I'm betting the flower frog is missing; that looks like it had water in it at some point.

I am just wondering if it was a normal use gilded bronze (I have scratched -and it is bronze) items with water. I am asking because I have no idea. :cyclops:

They've been making ornamental bronze vases in Asia since forever. It wouldn't surprise me.

I believe you! But don't think they use it with water. I forgot to add that though bowl is made with very thick walls, but lid is even thicker - looks like for holding something heavy or maybe not.... :dead:
