Hello like I said before I am new to this. I picked up this piece yesterday and wanted to research it's age, valve, etc. Problem is I don't know what it's called or if it's a good piece to research it. Any help would be great. Thanks Nathan
Looks like a sideboard/bar to me. "Valve"? I assume value. I've no clue. Can we see more please? Drawer sides, any marks? I'm guessing a bit either side of 1900.
I think more pictures are required too. What does the space behind the upper doors look like? Is there any way to open the "round" decorated panels in the lower section? Do the upper and lower sections come apart? Dimensions? When I was first looking at this, I thought the upper and lower sections don't really "match." But I do see that the round parts of the pull hardware seem to be the same. Of course, the hardware could have been replaced at some point, so that's not conclusive.
I saw the marriage issue too Bakers though I thought the corner match is then amazing. ~ Note Nates. More pictures are always better as, if not, then we have to ask for them.
Like the others, I need more pics to determine function. I am guessing it is a bedroom piece. I can tell you it is circa 1930 revival style furniture. There are some elements of Adam style but in no way is it pure in form.
It's a funky highboy, and I'd have said more 20s than 30s, but it doesn't matter much. There's no reason you can't put this in another room and use it however you like.
I was thinking some sort of dresser as well. It looked 20s-30s to me but with late 1800s/early 1900s influence as well. Its a pretty piece!
The wood and finish on the bottom section does not look the same as the top section. I think it looks like two buffets.
'Got that funky High Boy... Scoots 'round not no-ing where to... Sure doesn't care for what... Nor for you for perhaps...it bees a decoy... Maybe not worth keepin' too... But wees likes it but so what.... ~ Annnnnd......chorus>>>>> ~
Circa 1930 to me means some years either way so maybe 1920-1940. Really hard to pin this down much more than that. I don't think this is a marriage. Note how the cut front corners on the top and bottom match up exactly. What would be the chance of that happening with a marriage?
I concur with you with what I noted earlier on that point. Highly unlikely it is a marriage. The rest no clue for me.
The definitive test for matrimony is to look at a photo showing the entire back side. Value: It is worth what the OP paid for it. This design never gained popularity because many people wanted to open both of the concave doors simultaneously, but that's impossible.
Thanks for all the info it is one solid piece the front top doors open I will get more pictures of it this afternoon and put on here thanks for your input
You've got what looks like mold back there. Hopefully Brad can suggest what to do with that on this piece.
