Featured VINERS OF SHEFFIELD ENGLISH PEWTER TEA CADDY? TOBACCO JAR?

    Can someone tell me what this is/is for?
    A tea caddy? Tobacco jar? For sugar?

    Looks like a biscuit box.

    The handle on the lid looks like an insulated one similar to teapots so you does'nt burn your fingers.

    The heat does not transfer through the ivory or bakelite.

    I'm thinking something that contained warm water like an egg warmer or similar.

    Whatever it was, it's in tough shape (in case you haven't noticed.) That's the problem with pewter, it dents and warps easily because it is so soft.

    Very much doubt for "sugar," unlikely for tobacco without a place to secure something to provide humidity to keep the tobacco fresh. Could be for biscuits. Size would definitely help.

    I've seen a fair few of these, many engraved TEA. A few sugar. In this instance, I think the fact that the knop is an insulating material is simply so it matches a set.
