The upturned inside edge is dangerous,you have probably never seen the flesh peeled off a finger to the bone from a ring.

You can use a large paper clip, if the low point of the ring's shank is small enough, to hold the ring upright so you can give a better view of the shoulders & edge. Not too different from the clip type stands jewellers use in their showcases.
