Gorgeous Aqui, thanks for posting the link.
I love the antique jewellery, but seeing a Charles Loloma piece always makes me a bit nostalgic. Charles proposed to me way back when. His jewellery is always stunning.
I think we will have to save the emerald and ruby Buccellati moth for @kyratango .:playful:

Gorgeous indeed. I have never heard of "jar" earrings before, what is that please?

Well, according to a former member who was shown the exit by Davey, we are all elitist.
In spite of that, the person kept coming back under a different name, and thrown off every time. No doubt he or she is still looking to see what is going on here.:shifty::hilarious:

Think I may like the zebra better. The cameo is by Elena Pistrucci, daughter of Benedetto. Cameo shows the mastery you would expect of someone taught by one of the all-time best, but subject is rather pedestrian. I love work that romances the stone, sees the creature or person waiting to get out.

The Met had a big JAR exhibition & put out a lavish 'catalogue' more like a coffee table book. Didn't see it. Did see the big Verdura retrospective around the same time.

Those are beautiful, Kyra! And that shell is exquisite, Bronwen! Thanks for showing me his jeweled artworks.

Thanks for the update, fortunate to have missed a skirmish! Thank you for taking good care of us all, Davey!

Those were the biggest surprises to me price wise. The shapes are beautiful though.

Yes I'm surprised that the simple JAR imitation rose petal earrings sold for five grand! Indeed they were nicely done, looked just like the real thing...

Perhaps because it is on black background, I don't quite understand what I am looking with the cameo that Bronwen had mounted. I see the cameo looks to be floating on top, but cannot understand how this was "mounted" or attached to the rubies? Clever jeweler! :shame:

Did the jeweler drill teeny tiny holes in the edge where the prongs are? It has a pin back? I would think there is some structure in place on the back to hold her red "hair" with her red "dress" ? It's beautiful and a mystery to me! ;)

I love your zebra too, Kyra!

Also I have a question about the shell posted above - how can the outer layers of a shell remain stable enough through the years to support jewels, or do they just eventually fall off? ;)

I have only seen these from the front (Verdura lions paw will find others). Think the secret would be revealed from the back, just the way cameos that are en habillé (the ones with jewellery of their own) show on the back how any stones or chains are attached to the front. Thick walled shells are tough things. Looks to me as though on the Verdura brooch the stones are set into what amount to gold strips. The strips could be attached in 3 or more places needing only tiny drill holes going through.
