A decent shot of the backs would help. The buckle is just that. The black cameo might be 1930s Czech glass, but it's hard to be sure from the photo.

I can't see the cameo well enough to have much idea about. It's obviously meant to look like jet. Whether it is or not...? A view of the back would be helpful, as well as some closer pix of the front & edge. Try photographing on black background; it may improve contrast if you're like me & camera is on automatic.

If you don't get an answer right away, please don't start a new thread.

    So did I.:(:arghh:
Ok, here is my post from the other thread:

necollectors, could you photograph them separately?
The black brooch could be vulcanite or another jet lookalike. As cluttered said, we also need to see the backs. And a sideview of the black brooch please.

Cameo appears to be glass. Figure may be 'applied', i.e., glued on. Probably Czech.

There appears to be a makers mark on the cameo cameo makers mark.jpg

Looking closer you are most likely correct, the back is glass and the cameo figure doesn't appear to be, under a loupe it has a bit of crazing. What typically was the composition? If you were to date this, 1900s and Czech? Is this considered a mourning piece and would it have been in a frame of some sort?

The leaf looks like it was a dress clip and the back snapped off :(

Just because it is black does not mean it was part of the fashion for mourning jewellery, which started in emulation of Queen Victoria after Prince Albert died. She died in 1901 & the look was already in decline.

The Bohemians/Czechs were known for their glass & made components that were exported & assembled into finished pieces elsewhere. This figure is the goddess Ceres/Demeter. Some older molded glass does craze.

It's not clear to me how this was worn. I don't see marks where any type of findings were attached. May have had pin back glued on.

What do you all think? age on these? Worth? The buckle has me stumped...says Germany on reverse but to me it lookd like celluloid, or featherweight bakelite????

It looks like the cameo is actually very dark purple.
The Germans used many if not all of the early plastics in jewellery and accessories. Their favourites were celluloid, galalith and catalin. They used bakelite, but not nearly as much as the US manufacturers.
