Featured Oil on Canvas Portrait - Polish?

Nice painting - I am thinking the name is Polish or Greek but would love opinions. J. Kopminos? Sitter appears to be holding a rosary? 1970's?

 

Very nice portrait, laura. It is Greek, the sitter is wearing the netted scarf headdress of men from Crete, the rosary is actually a string of worry beads called komboloi.

 

Just found the name of the net headdress, it is called 'sariki'. Some wear it as a band around the head, like on your painting, others wear it so that it completely covers the top of the head.

 

This is so interesting! I love learning about other cultures. Thank you. Now to find the artist - maybe I need some worry beads?

 

Someone will find him.

(I would be more interested in finding the sitter. Which reminds me, my mother always used to say that Cretan men become better looking as they get older. )

He seems to prefer landscapes. Not sure what his medium is. Think they are photos made to look like paintings.

 

The first initial wouldn't be a J, as that letter doesn't exist in the Greek alphabet. And it does appear to be Greek, although could be something else.
