The dark brown is definitely Bakelite. I can't quite place the smell of the top part. Maybe old milk?

The bottom of the bottom label says "SR&TC" (Sonora radio and television co). The radio is not marked Sonora anywhere. There is only one google result for RCA with 'Plant A Chicago'. Lots of ambiguity about the history of SRTC.

The cord was cut. I might play with it tonight.

 

That's another form of bakelite. Galaith? It's made from milk protein and gives of the smell of rotten milk.

Nice find on the radio. The top doesn't look like bakelite (Catalin) to me. Might be casein plastic if it smells like milk. Here is some info about Sonora .....

The front of that radio reminds me of antique car grills.

 

Have still been buying mostly junky furniture to paint. Did find a few other things worth showing from the thrift store this past couple weeks.

I bought these two paintings of Yosemite Half Dome for $5.00 each. They are signed G. Bates and the bigger one is dated 1993. I have not researched the artist yet but doubt I will find anything. There were other paintings by the same artist that I thought less interesting and did not buy. The large one is 24 x 36 and the smaller is 16 x 20. Both acrylic on canvas.




Bought this lot of silver jewelry for $21.50. The link bracelet is Peruvian 900 silver. The rest are marked 925. Most are also marked Mexico. The pendants are some kind of spotted agate, probably blue onyx (dyed?), and tiger eye. I bought 3 other pieces for an additional $5.00 but gave them to a friend.



The ring has some kind of "stone" with bubbles. Maybe glass?

Brad, I am crazy about your ring. What in the world is that? I was thinking some sort of fused glass, or foiled glass? I would really like to follow the progress of this one. Does any true stone have bubbles? Amber, yeah, but not stone, so it has to be glass, yes?

It does look a lot like the glass you posted. At first, I thought it might be some kind of transparent enamel or acrylic but it is too hard. Has to be glass. No foil backing. The back is open and the enlargement is with the ring back-lit.

This jewelry was at our thrift "boutique" store. The regular guy who runs it was gone so I suspect someone else priced it. The most expensive piece was $5.00 for the ball bracelet. The Peruvian bracelet was only $2.00, the cuff was only $3.00. It all might have been a bit more expensive on a different day but I was not going to complain. Even so, I doubt anything would have been priced a whole lot more.

It is all about timing. I was purchasing these and another dealer I know was right behind me drooling. A minute or two later and I am sure I never would have had the opportunity to see it. I often don't even go in the boutique since they rarely seem to know what the good things are. I often find better stuff at the regular store. All jewelry does go to the boutique so I probably should check it more regularly.

NICE haul Brad; that jewelry lot is a scrore. I spent the last two days investigating stuff a few towns over, one day at an "antique show" and the second at a fundraiser flea market. Glad I went to the latter, not so much the former. The first had bad neighbors who forced people who needed handicapped parking to park too far away to walk in comfortably. Given how much I found at decent prices, I should have just gone home. The next day was more interesting. The flea turned up one nice bracelet (for more than you paid for everything, Brad) and a few other bits. The best stuff was at, believe this or not, Savers. They were just putting some jewelry out and I found a pile I don't have photographed yet. Pictured are Italian millifiori glass, jade and sterling, the bracelet, and a Civil War reunion watch fob. The itemsI got the biggest kick out of are the little .800 silver pacifier pendant and the Victory pin made from 1941 pennies.

I collect Victory pins, so that one is most likely going straight into the hoard... collection. That's the word. Collection. Wish I had enough of them for a hoard.

 

Ah. I'm not sure that I have any V pins....probably, but I do have sweetheart and Mother's pins. One with 4 or 5 stars on it though I'm thinking 5. Amazing.
I have a few with 1 or 2, don't think I have a 3.
Looking for Pearl Harbor ones too.
I do not have any gold star ones and not actually certain there were any.
