SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!

Again.. if it is a reproduction please give me a link to any site that has the information to lead u to believe it is a reproduction. Reproductions r generally machine made. This chair is clearly hand carved.. thank u

 

The ones on Alibaba are made in Jepara, a woodcarving and furniture manufacturing town in north Java, Indonesia. A lot of the work they do is hand carved.
They call this model Madura, which is an island off the north coast of Java. Madura is known for the best carvers of Indonesia, but the indigenous Madurese style is much more intricate.

 

The only info I got on it was it was brought here from overseas, not bought in usa

 

I have a freebee that I have kept for 40 years and used in every home I've owned. I have invested some money into it as needed. It isn't worth a lot, but I enjoy it. The money didn't matter, nor did the provenance. @verybrad was so helpful in identifying it's place in history, though. My point is if it doesn't meet your expectations, then move it on. If you enjoy it, keep it until you get something you like better

Very similar yet there r differences. That is why I'm trying to get to the bottom of this mystery. Lol

 

Thank u for ur info. However how can u tell the difference. I can visually see the difference in the link I shared and that another has shared. So r the shared links of a reproduction? The shared links show a 3rd leg on bottom in the middle. Like when making a reproduction they learned from original that it needed more support. I am very grateful for all the responses. Why i turned to this site.

My apologies, u r right one is from alibaba site. Ur post is from another. Ur link and the alibaba link r the only similar matches I have found..

 

Yours looks older, of course. But it could have been made in Indonesia. The European presence in Indonesia goes back to a bit before the European presence in North America. Not that your chair is that old, but just to show that they have a long tradition of making furniture suited for Western taste.

I don't know if you have seen the BBC series Victoria? All the furniture you see was commissioned in Indonesia.

I apologize if I seem to have any kind of attitude. I am much appreciative of all the comments. U may just sense my frustration of some of the comments shared r of what I have already researched and spent many hours on. Frustration of me already stating I have ADD and have already research Everything I can find online and thousands and thousands of images for no information. Responses have given me other avenues to search. So I apologize to everyone for my frustration. If it is a reproduction I do not care. It's my relaxing chair. I only ask for a link about reproductions that explain or show it is a reproduction so I can educate myself..

I will most definitely check that out. And thank u. I most certainly have no negative attitude. Just frustration. Like I've said I am a collector (just not furniture) and when I cant find information on something. That's when the ADD kicks in..lol
