Please don't ask why, but at a recent auction I bought 568 sporting, association, military and corporate ties from the 1970s-1990s

We have sorted these into 3 categories:
    Not easily identifiable (152)
    Identified (137)
    Identifiable (279)

This tie, made in England, material Polyester, falls into the last category. Apart from the last letter, which may stand for society, I really have no clue and I cant even think of a convincing (and clean!!) acronym that would fit.

    Help!

:hilarious: Did you pronounce the word as an acronym? Given the chicken it works perfectly!

And it has that "white feather" thing going on.

DH informed me about the possible "symbolism" of the white feathers on the tie.

DH said that in England/Great Britain (World War I and "perhaps" thereafter) white feathers were "given to" (wonder if that could also mean "waved at" or left on the doorstep of or made to be worn by) men who had "dodged" going into the service of their country.

Sorry that I can't help with the lettering.

I recall being instructed by a lady ebay seller a few years ago about some of the weird male clothes buyers

Which may be why I cant think of a different name!

I saw on TV a real WWI white feather with accompanying letter on an Antiques Road show once. Unbelievable that the recipient would want to keep it!

My guess is its awarded to a losing side in an amatuer Rugby Union game as a joke by the victors and it had to be worn at the after match booze up.

I'm not sure that a burly beer-bellied prop forward would wear this after losing!

But I thought it could be rugby as well. However, with only 37/568 ties identified as rugby related, odds are that it is something else.

That is exactly the type of thing a Rugby Union losing player would have to wear, its a humiliation thing they have between clubs and the rivalry, it would only be worn after match in the club house.
Rugby League would be a different story.
