Pieter de Hoogh (or Hooch) Dutch Interior Miniature, any ideas?

Hi, this belongs to a friend of mine who says they have had it for quite a long time (remembering it from his childhood). Its a very small framed 10 x 12cm and is labelled The fine arts publishing company ltd, Burlington Gardens, Bond Street London.

Does anyone have information on this?

Probably a print based on a painting. According to this site I found, a similar print is said to be "after Pieter de Hoogh, artist unknown."

I have not located the original painting's location, nor any other sites with reproductions at this time.

I had trouble tracking this print down. Turns out it is not by de Hoogh (de Hooch). It is by Pieter Janssens Elinga. Apparently, it was originally misattributed to de Hoogh. Here is the original residing in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich ......

Does anyone know how long those diamond-shaped pin thingies have been in use?

 

Those are glazier's points. Been around a very long time. Have seen them in windows dating to at least the very early 20th century. How common their use in framing is and how far it goes back is another question.

"George Hubbard was a wide ranging inventor and entrepreneur based in Windsor, Vermont. Hubbard invented the diamond-shaped glazier’s point and the tool to set it about 1880."

So, if you know the date it was reassigned to Elinga, you'll know that yours was framed prior to that since it still says de Hoogh.
