Forgive pics, please, my lightbox is not set up. Five inches tall. Fat belly is 3 wide.
Maker, age, name, really clambroth? or?
It was a charity auction, this is one of the items I bought as a donation. So tell me if you can, how much is tax deductible :) out of total expenditure of $19.50. Just please don't say $19.25. :wacky:
    TIA.

I suggest you contact your enrolled agent or certified tax preparer, but my unofficial guess would be it is deductible up to the amount you paid for it. You will also need the charity's tax number information when you file.

92.5% of what I type, anti, is ignorable. In other words, kidding.

I really just want to know who made it, when and if it's collectible, maybe to be donated by me to the next charity auction/yard sale/flea market. An idea of value can be important at that stage.

We have a non-profit youth group that we incorporated in 1982. I was also Treasurer for my Rotary club for four years. My understanding of tax status is that if you pay and get something for your money - a meal, an auction item - it's not tax deductible. The only time you can take a deduction is for a donation with no material gain. Maybe that's only in Mass.

I think what's he's hinting at is the "deductible difference" between the "total expenditure of $19.50" and the actual value of the item. (If, for instance, its value is only $10, then the charitable deduction would be $9.50)...

Unfortunately, I have no idea what this item is worth!

SBSVC is correct. If you donate to your local PBS station and get a tote or coffee mug for doing that, the value of the item is deducted from the total for tax deduction purposes.

Because of the "feet" I'm guessing possibly more modern, like Murano?

    I really, really like it!

Yes, that is what I was hinting at.

And, yes, I actually like the little cutie. But not the season yet to pick violets.

    So, no ID yet.
Scout, I doubt Murano. I was actually thinking more like early Westmoreland to which many collectors ascribe Clambroth and Opal. Any other ideas what it might be called.

BTW. I may or may not be around for a while. Got blindsided by an ugly little kidney stone yesterday and it's still swimming around in there. I may go for a bit of whatever they call it - blasting the SOB's.

Hey TOG, have you tried Chanka Piedra for that stone? It works for me to break it up after a few days of mega-dosing myself with that supplement. Has saved me from costly procedures and medical bills more than once!

Sorry I cannot help with the id of your pretty vase.

Antidiem - I am currently waiting for return call from my doctor. This is about my tenth stone attack. The first two were passed. That was from friendly advice. Summer and the garden needed tending. A few hours spent bending, digging, etc. etc. during which I finished a six pack of Bud. .............Easy pass. Try it next time. :sorry:

But this one is nothing at all like the past ones. I told ER doc I doubted a kidney stone, mostly because I was not rolling around on the floor, vomiting. But a CT scan confirmed it. Comparatively mild pain "down there" but other places. Feels as though someone is hammering a one inch thick wooden dowel into my left ear. That stopped, but then switched to the right ear. Gas pains all over my stomach and reaching higher. Not my heart. Kidney pain and muscle pain. Yesterday I drank over a quart of bottled water and - in the next 6 hours - passed about 8OZ. I just tried to do a nap but my body is shaking like a pile of leaves in a tornado. This is a stone, a little blood and an infection.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised when I opened the hospital bill for the last treatment. $18,000 for two nights. Didn't even feed me. Next day I got the Dr. bill. $5,000. That was not my regular hospital and they denied knowing anything about lithotripsy.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm going under, then back home.

OldGuy, I truly feel for you, and that isn't pleasant, at all!

I am actually a kidney transplant recipient... It's been almost 15 years now, which is almost impossible to believe. (Talk about HOSPITAL BILLS! Just imagine the bill for a LIVE TRANSPLANT!)

I am going to recommend a site, the KIDNEY PATIENT GUIDE, that is a UK-based site, but nonetheless open to any & all:
    http://www.kidneypatientguide.org.uk/BB.php

I used to be a very active poster (and actually, a US monitor on the site) until I decided that my kidney issues couldn't be in the forefront of my life, and I realized that I had to move on (i.e. ignore the scary stuff & just be...)

Nonetheless, there are others there who can give you advice and empathy, and that site held me together for a very long time when I was hurting big-time.

I hope that all goes well for you: that you can get that kidney stone zapped to oblivion, that it never happens again, etc, etc, etc. I'll be thinking of you!

    Hi,
Everything that I was afraid of happened. I was so scared of my gall bladder, my car accident took care of that. Gall bladder was ripped off and deposited next to my kidney. I stopped worrying about things and they went away.:eek::eek:

Thanks for telling us, SBSVC. How old were you when you had the transplant? (just curious)
