I never could recite it, but there are enough geeks in the family that I'd have snagged it too.

Cool mug. We never had to recite the periodic table....I would have failed.

Another weekend, another flea market, thrift shop, and two antique malls.

This was a thrift shop find. The date engraved is "33"-I guess 1933. Tests as ruby, I am sure lab-created. I fell in love with the etching. What do you see on the side? I have been thinking about it for over 24 hours now. I am seeing a king (fleur de lis on the sides) perhaps one of the three wise men with an offering. Or Aladdin, but the fleur de lis wouldn't work then.) There is as similar one, not as ornate, on ebay with 12 watchers for $595.

Then this. Antique mall find, sterling, had a note saying the person who owned this attended a papal audience. Marked Italy, Roma, Sterling. I couldn't ID the beads, then wham, queen conch shell came to mind. I have not seen another one like it on the internet.

Only glass, I believe, 18", faux coral, I love this.

Earring lot, $1 to $4, the jadeite is 14k as is the lapis, and maybe the coral ones are. All have 14k posts, that's why I snagged them. Earring lot 11-17-19 (620x640).jpg
And, in the Art Nouveau style, this sterling necklace. I have seen one other one like it on the internet.

@Marko - I'm seeing James II being held by Charles I, his Father, perhaps commemorating the 300th anniversary of James' birth in 1633. James II is oftimes pictured with the fleur de lys owed to his French Wife - Henrietta Maria.

@Bookahtoo - Yes, well, as the last Roman Catholic monarch of united Britain - when the Parliaments refused to pass his measures regarding Catholic tolerance, and he tried to enact them by Royal Decree, and was ultimately removed for that reason - one supposes that the prevailing Protestant faction might well have seen him as a pig.

    ;)

Not certain that these really count as "finds" rather than as simple windfalls:

Three index tabs, hiding in plain sight in a fourteenth century liturgical manuscript - heavily smoke-darkened and initially quite unreadable, fashioned from a mid-fifth century manuscript, in a fine Italian Scriptio Continua lapidary hand, the text of which hasn't yet been identified.

Was bargain hunting at a local antique mall on Saturday. The store was kind of bare and some of the dealers were having sales at deep discounts -- hope this place is going to remain in business. They seem to be having lots of turnover and not a lot of customers. The local junk mall on the other hand was packed with shoppers.

My finds below and in the postcard thread!

Also picked up this book for $2.50. Trying to build up my antiques and collectables reference library.

Thanks. I am kicking myself for not buying all the $5 sterling vintage Christmas charms I saw still on their original cards. Sigh.

Oh wow, is that Aphrodite? And what would be that thing she is standing in on my pendant? Now I am immensely pleased since I love all things regarding her, mermaids, water nymphs, and nudes shown in water/oceans. Ring I purchased a few years ago made from a 14k cufflink.

I can't tell what she is perched on. Photo a bit blurry there, so actually looks more like a lotus blossom than a scallop shell to me, but can see the swirling silver around her as stand in for the waves.

I don't think she is anyone in particular, maybe a Naiad if you like. Title of the painting is La Vague.
