@Lucille.b is that a signature on yours, just under their right ear on the collar?

I see three different artists have painted the same painting - all shown here in links by members and the original. If we can, collectively, come up with 3 of the same exact subject, no telling how many more out there on the market place there may be.

The problem I see is that some of the "lesser" artists (perhaps Dias?) are now being copied by Chinese art factories (and other places). Due to the numerous paintings so copied shown here, I'm now of the thought that this could be one of "those" factory paintings.

I agree entirely with the post Bev made about the differences in quality, paint handling and pallet colors, etc. (Thanks Bev!) *hearts*

I've become so skeptical these days LOL! I bought a small painting at a thrift (not your painting) after checking some sold prices and seeing that it seemed to be by someone that had at least some following. It's signed Roybal.

As I delved into the painter online I found a bio and everything. Then I found some suggesting that it's really a made up person with a group of people doing the painting. Who knows? It's made me think twice about a lot of what I think of as sweet art.

I don't see any reason a painter might not copy/repeat their own painting if it proved to be a "seller" especially if they were painting for a tourist market. The first thing I thought when I saw your darling child painting was that it was Mexican. (I have nothing to base that on though).

Ok that was no help at all sorry:(. I almost deleted rather than post.

I'm glad that you didn't. Your experience and information is a help to all of us who are art illiterate. I only know what I like.....but can't give you the reasons why.....other than perhaps it's subject.....

Sticking my nose back in.....Bev may easily be right....she IS the working artist!!!!
I did a side by side comparison.....definitely differences.....maybe a student trying to see how close they could come???? And @cxgirl did question if that was a sig. up under the child's RIGHT ear ON the collar....almost looks like it says "Bish"....good question.......this is fun to ponder!!! HA!!! I hope I have the right two you were questioning!!:jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:

An interesting exercise in comparisons. All of the signed Dias portraits have this exact shirt, collar up, patch on the sleeve. That is so funny to me.

"I see three different artists have painted the same painting - all shown here in links by members and the original."

Just to clarify, I think we are looking at either one artist or at most two. Everything so far has been signed by V. Dias, I don't think people are saying that some of those are by different artists. The one is question is mine --the single unsigned one.

For the record, I doubt its a Chinese factory painting, just for the simple reason that the frame looks to be older, the canvas is darkened from age. I'd put it at 50 years old plus or thereabouts.

Also wanted to mention that bit by the collar is not a signature, and I haven't taken it out of the frame. Taking things out of the frame is my least favorite thing to do. Can never get it back in just right.

Okay, commence the slaying, to my eye, looking at the two above, I actually like the unsigned one better. Especially the face.
