Hello. I'm commonly known as Gorn1120 on nearly every site I register for.

This last year was truly my first attempt at collecting/investing.
    -Violin
    -Guitars
    -Knives
    -NASCAR collectibles
    -Brass Decor

In the end, it'll be passed on or sold as play money/retirement funding/downsizing. I will eventually buy a classic muscle car.

    Hola, and welcome, Gorn.
My brother collects guitars. Kent guitars.
You'll find a lot of company here, especially regarding knives, I bet!

    Edit - Oh, and... CARS!!!!!!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Kingsie, should I post a nice low rider for him, in the name of cultural diversity?

Edit... True, Kingsie. You win this time!

See what a fun bunch we are, Gorn? :)

    Welcome to the board.

You should buy because you like and enjoy the items you buy.
Not because you think they will fund your retirement.

Many of us here are in that retirement age bracket. When the economy fell in 2008, the antique market collapsed as well. I own a B&M, people decided it was time to downsize their collections and make money on them. Didn't happen. The market was flooded with real antiques as well as "collectibles".

The only thing I can advise - buy the highest quality you can afford, as that is what holds value. Every thing else is just fun.

Good. I've got a lot of learning to do.

No worries. I'm actually looking into a '73 Camaro. I know it's not the best year for performance, but I just decided one day I wanted that one if I had the chance and funding. (Preferably self-restored in later years)

I'll keep that in mind. What is a B&M?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

B&M ... brick and mortar... as in actual storefront, as opposed to online business, etc. :)

    Right, Closet?

One of my home state small towns had 2-3 antique stores go OOB in the last 2 years. For some reason, another comes right after with another surge of hope. I admire the optimism; I bought a few things (such as the violin).

    Correct.
I have an actual antique and gift store.
Mine's a mix of old and new, which bothers some antiquers, but is the only way to stay in business today. Doing what I really like, buying and collecting.

Well those are much after the Gub-mint, and insurance companies, strangled them so they were no longer 'muscle cars' as it were.
Doesn't mean you can't make it better! :)
    Where are you located?

I see..... I don't know what the market is like there but I would think you could get nice '73s for pretty low prices.
Or go after one in the southwest US.
Interiors can suffer there but not the metal.

A restored car will cost me 10-20K, more if all/mostly original. I'd rather get a solid body with minor-moderate rust/repair for 2-4k. (may be missing engine, bad tranny, or interior)
