Wall pocket with English Registry Mark?

Ok I have never seen this kind of mark on pottery pieces like this. Can anyone help me with the maker and age of this wall pocket? Also the cream colored "flower" is about the ugliest thing I have ever seen it looks like dried up gum. Is it right or was something applied to it and broke off? It does not feel like something broke off.

My grandson is growing carnivorous plants in his bedroom. I'm going to start calling him Seymour.

Ok it is a U so 1874

 

I am not sure what is is. You can not feel it from the inside. It is glazed and smooth on the inside

 

If it's hard and seems to be a part of the pottery I wonder if it's a kiln kiss

It's kind of an off-subject/obscure-plant piece, but I really admire that handle. That is not easy to do!

 

Isn't the grey "pocket" supposed to be a bird's nest of woven grass?

 

I think so like an oriole nest maybe.

It's a bird's nest form, so maybe that's just a bit of guano.

 

So is the consensus that it is some sort of damage?

 

Are these originally sculptures, then wax molded? Something like that?

Keep scrolling back to look at the blob, then the gorgeous (mismatched?) pair, then back to blob, repeat.
