I found this yesterday with rosary beads wrapped around it.
The child is holding a cross.
Wondering the age and is it worth selling

This modern version of Joseph and Jesus is for sale on Amazon for £29.99. Very similar to yours, 30cm tall.

The only thing that confuses me is the Christian cross, is seen as a representation of the instrument of the crucifixtion of Jesus, yet he is holding it years before it allegedly happened.

Surprised that never came up in any episode of Father Ted.

Daveydempsey, my husband's take on it is that the baby Jesus is prophetically holding a cross -- the symbol of his end-of-life/death.

I find it very moving when looked at in that way.

I think it's artistic license. He didn't carve that cross himself.

The Easter Lily can also be seen as a symbol of Christ's resurrection. Some of these religious items are loaded with symbolism. They were meant to tell a story and serve as an instrument of reflection.

Sort of off topic, but maybe not too far. Has anyone else noticed the proliferation of religious artifacts in thrifts lately ? I swear I see a ton now.

I've noticed it here in Indiana. I grew up Catholic and we were given smaller statues like this for good grades and/or good behavior. Most Catholic homes had at least one crucifix and usually a statue of the Virgin. The quality of these items varied considerably. Anyway as society became less religious and the older generation died off these items reached the secondary market. There is little market for them unless they were produced by a maker known for good quality.
