The siggy looks to me like Cabveva /74. Other opinions are welcome.

Moreotherstuff, those "v's" might (?) be weird "r's" - as in CABRERA...

Looking at the edges of the signature, it looks like it's printed in the photos. Does it look that way under a loupe?

That sort of thing doesn't turn up here much, just as well since that way I can't spend money on it!

No, it's a real siggy. Thanks for looking. :)

Could be. Somehow that sounds more like a name than Cabveva.

There are some vaguely similar Cabrera watercolors on Pinterest that show Puerto Vallarta. Could be the same person.

    Virtually the same scene:

I don’t think I’ve ever posted a “find” to the “finds” thread here, since I’ve been in downsizing mode for so long…

I just found something, however – in my own home – that I thought was pretty neat, so I figured I might as well join the thread as a “finder”!

This was at the bottom of my childhood sewing box, and I found it today while searching everywhere for a particular shade of thread that I needed for a project.

There was a note inside it, indicating that it was given to my mom by “Jim”, a WW2 penpal. (Mom had at least a dozen of them – penpals, I mean – she was in her mid-teens during the war & apparently wrote to a bunch of the boys from back home.)

Anyway, what I found was a cool leather sewing kit, shown here:

I found this July 24, 1943 reference from Billboard Magazine (via Google Books):

Belsic Products is offering a still more expansive kit or billfold that fits in with the times. It not only holds cards, papers and money but has needed personal items such as pins, needles, and thread. The idea is based on needs of men and women in the services, but people everywhere are finding it practical. It comes in different styles.

Google Images has photos of lots of different sewing kits, but this one, from Worthpoint, is closest: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/authentic-belsic-leather-ww2-ii-air-440933948

It is about the same as mine, except with an Air Force logo (and more contents remaining inside):

It's nothing monetarily valuable, but it's the sort of little thing I find special.

the only name on it is Picasso's and the Henderson furniture company labeled on the bottom ,yes i talked to the guy reproducing them he says he didn't do it because putting picasso's name on his work would be fraud he only puts his own name on it and he is not from Canada Ps. his are nothing close to the originals either (he's no Picasso) and henderson went out of biz years ago also 50's for hendersons and 87 for henderson and ames who joined together in the fifties I have done a lot of homework lol and know one is taking responsibility for this chair . but also can't explain it either lol

i think I'm going to go to the media with it because it's just to huge for the average appraisers to believe i don't blame them it is an incredible find , or brent malley of pawn stars but i will have to take it there and i'm not sure that is possible for cash he will look at a picture of it but that won't do it you have to see this thing in person to appreciate it, and the way it was done .

I got up today and waited outside in the Too Darned Cold for the grand opening of a Goodwill in my town. Got a $5 gift certificate for doing that, and walked out with about $45 in stuff, after gift certificate. I normally wouldn't buy a belt, but it's a sterling belt, double hallmarked. The little heart with the sparklies is 14 karat (oops) with probable CZs. The salt and peppers are Spode and the baby cup is sterling too. The round box isn't anything in particular, but a good friend collects pigs. There were a few other bits but they're not in the shot. 101_0052 (800x685).jpg

Evelyb - nice find on the 14k & sterling! I have a collection of those baby cups - maybe 2 dozen or so, including my own & my kids' - and I just have a thing for them!
