I think this has real age - as in, antiquity. I'd take it to one of the local museums or contact the county archaeologist. Might well be Roman in that neck of the woods.

It looks like Adam and Eve or some sort of fertility ring. Googling shows that there are some modern similar sorts of rings that look old, is it marked at all?

Don't you in the UK have a resource, as bear said, a government department etc. that will review finds? Don't I recall that significant finds they pay you for?

Anyway, having been involved in archaeology as an avocation for awhile it's often the knowledge that can be gained by knowing about the location the object came from that is more significant than the monetary value. (OK I'm a little biased).

So if it has any significant age then where you found it may be of real interest to historians and archaeologists.

How long ago did you find it? With a metal detector? Lots of cool stuff coming from the area.

As said before, get this checked!

    Could it be Celtic?

What am I missing here? What is it about it that everyone thinks that it is old?
Could just as well be modern.

Hi, I found it on Monday this week, it looked like a can ring pull as only a slight bit of the top was visible, it was buried at the side of an eroded footpath about 5 miles out of Ulverston on a coastal path & packed with mud/grit.
At first I thought it was a cheep kind of comedy ring and was going to chuck it in the sea,
But when I got home.... washed and looked at it through a magnifying glass it looks amazing.
The photo's don't do it Justice.
P.s no metal detector just a nice winter walk.

It's the modeling that made me think it might be Roman. Doesn't look like a modern approach to me, nor does it look Celtic to me... but I'm just hemming and hawing.

But wouldn't it be something if it turns out to be the real deal? It's enough to make a body take up exercise.

Have it checked and let us know!
