Taking a look in the pic again at full size, I would say that this is likely pine. Don't know why I didn't expand the pic earlier. Is it pretty lightweight? If pine, I am leaning toward Anglo-Indian. I don't know anything about Australian furniture so it could just as well be a domestic item.

Posted the above before seeing these new pics. New pics confirm my belief that this is pine.

It is light weight, but I'm not sure if that's due to the wood or just the fact that compared to other furniture there isn't much mass there.

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

In my opinion it looks to be made up piece from other parts, in Canada about 1960/70 has been stripped and refinished in the last 5 years ,I'm working on a couple similar pieces right now a table/wall stand , and a book/newspaper stand, woods used maple and pine . this is the news paper stand

I guessed Jake was Commonwealh from the way he spells mum. ;) I think this is British. Seen a fair few of them. Late 19th/early 20th transitioning from heavy Victorian to Arts and Crafts. Those almost Mackintosh handles are a clue, as well as the fact that the thing has some lightness of style.

Fellow Australian here! I thought it looked Australian or it could possibly be British..I believe it is an Edwardian Pine Hallstand with a late art nouveau floral design. It looks darker because I think it has a furniture stain on it. I don't believe it is walnut. It is very beautiful indeed, wish I lived closer haha.

Except, looking closer at the design, shows that it is a transition between Victorian Art Nouveau and Edwardian/Georgian Art Deco.
