    Assay marks can be anywhere on an item.;)

    Suppose I should have been more clear in that they could be anywhere on the base piece, the main part of the item, with the secondary incomplete hallmarks on the lid. The 1900 dating is more what I expected - here is a similar hairpin box in an 1899 Mappin & Webb ad:

    Especially on pieces from your country, have spent quite a bit of time over the years locating all the Dutch marks scattered over items...
