I went mad in the Charity shop and paid £40 for this. I think because I haven’t found anything I wanted to buy for weeks so I splashed out and got the bone beads too for £3. Still feeling like a crazy lady as I am usually so frugal and the cameo isn’t very well carved, the mount worn, but it’s big eyeful. There’s another listed on Etsy, same carver and mount but the sellers is much shinier than my rubbed brass buy, also saying theirs is pinchbeck. I don’t know about that but I think doubtful but the question I wanted to ask was if anyone has attempted to regild their jewellery using size and gold leaf?

My great-grandmother had a Three Graces cameo; it was a popular design. If it were here 40 quid would be about what I'd expect to see on it.

Can totally relate to going "mad" and paying a bit more for some piece of vintage jewelry because I haven’t found anything I wanted to buy for weeks. Sometimes we need a treat!

I'm also incredibly frugal when purchasing, but I can see buying this for £40.

I think it's pretty piece. It may not be the most technical carving, but it has a pleasing look and someone might like the subject matter most. I think would find a home if you resell.

I always say this, and believe it, if you like it, buy it, as long as you can afford it. Enjoy it while you have it. That's what this stuff is for.

Very nice cameo. We'd have bought it. I think we have one or two of the three graces.

Thanks everyone, feeling a bit better about the purchase now. I think I will wear this piece.
There is a sealant that you can put on gold leaf which would protect the item from wear. I wonder if @kyratango has tried jewellery regilding?

Hotfooting it to Canada if she has any sense, at least if she's in the USA.

if deportations start in ernest..... I worry about folks and travel luggage coming north, thru the woods, across the water, at border towns , over hill & dale , and anywhere the snow's not too deep yet..!!

We won't be able to stop that kinda migration...

That's the problem with metals; the paints have to be metal paint or it doesn't stick. Good old clear nail varnish might work; I've had good luck with nail polish on metal and glass.
