Just picked these up. Was having a really quiet day and nothing doing until the last shop I went in. Bought a nice water colour landscape then spotted these when I was at the counter. They still have soap suds on the base so must have just been put out. Anyway. They are about 30cm tall. I was thinking Kutani at first but perhaps too thick.

I think Yokohama is quite a broad term. Imura zo would describe the mark more specifically.

"Imura Zo is a Japanese porcelain mark that indicates a piece was made in Yokohama and is attributed to Imura Hikotaru or Hikojiro:
    • Imura Hikotaru
A Japanese artist who lived from around the time of the Meiji period (1868-1912) to 1897
    • Imura Hikojiro
A Japanese artist who produced a fine Sesto Yokohama porcelain plate in the 19th century"
They don't look that old to me though...

Great looking vases! I’d have gone the Kutani route in my mind too but yeh it’s usually quite thin! Maybe just Arita?

Maybe not sure. I'm learning all the time. Wouldn't arita be in an imari palette?

I believe that it wouldn’t be restricted to just that palette.

Okay thanks for info. I sent the photos over to Bonhams for valuation but they didn't really elaborate on my description. All they said is that they wouldn't be interested in selling them as they don't command their lower price estimate of £500. I pressed them for an estimate and they said £300 - £500. So shall go for a smaller local auction house I think.

The bigs will have someone that really knows what it is but won’t want it and the locals will want it but won’t know what it actually is. If you want a definitive answer go here and pay $15 https://bidamount.com/contact-us he will tell you.

Edit: I think they should be worth 300-500 but I can’t see them bringing that. Maybe you’d get the lower end on eBay if you were patient. In a local auction here I think they’d struggle to sell for much. They’d be put in a group lot that still wouldn’t bring too much probably. I’d have bought them too though and stuck them on eBay for whatever I could get. Unless someone tells you something I don’t know which is entirely possible. Run them by Peter Combs for shits and giggles though and see what he says. They are real good lookin.

It seemed a bit high to me to be honest. They recommended that I use an auction house called Halls in Shrewsbury. It's a bit far out though. I like to take items to them in person in case they get broken in the post. I am going to try and find something with an oriental theme in Manchester. I struggle to sell items of value on eBay. Everyone seems to want to pay nothing. Then there are issues with shipping again.
It cost me £10 for the pair so I should make a profit whatever I do.

Edit: Thanks for the link. Looks useful.
