Featured Japanese Wooden Cash Register (MOTTO FINE 2591, Type 1931 Register)

Good Day, I found this interesting item in an estate sale yesterday and have never seen anything like it, nor could I find anything online like it so I was helping you smart people might be able to provide some light on this please.

I ended up buying it and it is listed as "Japanese Wooden Cash Register (MOTTO FINE 2591, Type 1931 Register)" and as I said, I can't find anything on it.

The register is very old and made of wood. It says it was made in Tokyo and had a engraved plaque reading "Type 1931 Register" and painted on "MOTTO Fine 2591", along with other Japanese writing unfamiliar to me.

The register is approx 15 inches tall and 12 inches wide.

ANY info would be greatly appreciated.

I found one with the marquee and the word Motto on it, but it appears that the motto would show up in the window as part of a 'scrolling display.'

That’s a fun thing! Gotta be a register collector out there that doesn’t have one of those! If it is a prototype/patent model or salesman’s sample type thing that would make it all the more desirable.
