Makanudo There is no such thing as simple.Simple is hard.

I picked up today this interesting bottle. I have no idea of the age.
It doesnt say on the label where it was produced, only that it was imported for germany and by who.

Well, Cognac is protected name and can be only made in France, but by which factory, thats the question.

Oh, when you mentioned import to Germany and "doesn't say on the label where it was produced" I thought you wanted to know what country. Sorry.

Unfortunately not entire label is preserved, so I cannot know where its made. Itried searching with photo and by the name, with no luck.

Can you read (or get translated) all the French on the label? It might just be the importer's generic label - they buy in bulk from a variety of makers and then just slap their own label on it. The "2 Buck Chuck" of the cognac world.

Mak, this time you pushed my "confused quotient" close to 90. (Doesn't take much.) What exactly are we looking for? I can't read much on that label, but taking Komo's comment, and seeing the built in spout, I can only think that it was a labeled specialty for that hotel/B&B - Le Vieux Castel in Roumoules, France. If nothing better comes along you might try dropping them an inquiry.

Where does Germany come in here? I'd think it never left France.

Sorry for the delay in reply. Heres what is printed on the label in small print:

    "40% vol-imp.par:Caves Leuchter, Breidweiler L6238 "

"LE COGNAC EST LE PRODUIT NATUREL DES VINS RECOLTES ET DISTILLES DANS LA REGION DELIMITEE DE COGNAC SOUS LE CONTROL DE L'ETAT. IL ES GARANTI PAR UN ACQUIT JAUNE D'OR RESERVE AUX COGNACS"

On ths washed out white rectangular label I can read only bottom line and it says:" FONTAINE COGNACS"

We are trying to put a manufacturer and a date to that bottle.
It says on a label that it is imported for some german or austrian address

I found an auction listing that included a bottle of Scotch whiskey that was imported by Caves Leuchter and includes the abbreviation "Lux" after Breidweiler. Luxembourg?

Interestingly, the label looked remarkably similar to the one on your cognac bottle - and the name on the label was "Old Scotch Castle." Seems that was the way Caves Leuchter had their imported spirits identified?

Label design, the name and the colour of the label(same shade), point to the conclusion you are suggesting.

Back again, because what I stated before was evidently not very clear. This is the portion I could not find (see) = I picked up today this interesting bottle. I have no idea of the age. It doesnt say on the label where it was produced, only that it was imported for germany and by who.

Your french paragraph above is sort of a generic notice that this cognac is from the region of France authorized to produce "COGNAC." Fontaine cognacs, I think, also alludes to authorization, license, whatever, to call it COGNAC.

Vieux Castel, as on the label, is a hotel or B&B in France. Could be a chain.

I'll try to be clearer this time.
With the spout on the bottle I think, possibly, this was produced for use in bars, etc. rather than for general public. Not the contents, just the bottle. Then a label may have been made for a specific bars, hotels, etc.

Could be a long shot, but it would only take a few moments to send a note to the Vieux Castel and ask if above might be correct and, if so, which particular vineyard produced it.

In either case, best of luck and Happy Holidays to all.
