I've spotted these vases on Ebay. I'm absolutely in love with them. Love all the different colours and geometric shapes. I was thinking about having a pitch at them but the price seems to be slowly disappearing out of reach. I'll be keeping my eyes out for something similar for sure.

They are very appealing. I would quite happily have them on my mantle piece and just pretend the chip wasn't there. There is another single Hattori vase on eBay for £425 BIN..

I guess personal taste comes into it a lot. I like it but it's hard to tell because the photos are quite poor.

Yes. I viewed first hand and this was a great piece. I didn't bid as there was not going to be a profit if the reserve was £200 ish

You get some nice Satsuma over in the UK.

Don't you get much in USA?

A lot of our better auctions are located far away on the East Coast or Georgia,Texas, etc.
Looks like the UK has a lot more regional smaller auctions you can drive/train/bus to.Also distances are closer-we took a TGV from London to Brussels via Chunnel, abt 5-6 hours.
It's prob easier to simply pick things up in person over there compared to USA.

The wear on the gold in Op's pics would turn me off them . They are lovely but I also rarely (never) buy anything chipped . That example John shared is gorgeous !

I prefer the old style, more sparsely decorated Satsuma ware, with wisterias and other flowers. It pleases the eye and is more in keeping with the Japanese esthetic.

This style crowded with ladies in kimonos or with grotesque immortals is more geared towards the Western market.
