    I’ve never handled the stuff but I bet that is a good idea. I was just looking for a safe place to temporarily put it and walked by a large kachina I have. He had something in his hand at one point which is now missing. The base of this totem almost fits. I may trim it and put it there. Doesn’t fit culturally obviously but I like putting found objects together in fun ways.

    I’d say a portly fella with lots of whiskers that liked to lay on beaches and rocks after eating fish in cold water.

    I'm using Premier brand for a little reconstruction myself. I've also heard DAS is good. Since the item is possibly ivory or bone, a stone based clay might be good for something that's touching it. Those clays are non-toxic and mostly mineral based.
