spelter? cherub oil lamp?

    hi folks

    this was something else i picked up at local auction, thought it looked bronze in the auction picture, but think its probably spelter or something

    didn't pay too much (£22) though, presuming its an oil lamp with the burner part missing (don't know how easy that would be to replace)

    im guessing antique, but not 100% sure, or origin

    measures 10 inches

    any thoughts or info appreciated

    It's got green verdigris on it Charlie, this forms on copper, bronze and brass.

    The thread at the top looks like brass so maybe copper plated brass or bronze which is an alloy of copper and tin or even cupro-nickel.

    good point, it just looks in some places like theres a white metal base show through, like on the animal head handles

    heres where it looks like theres a lighter base metal underneath, on his noggin

    it is quite an odd colour though, thats why i thought it might be something a bit more tasty than spelter

    Could be just base metal or nickel.
    First thing I do with unidentified metal is put a magnet to it, that rules in or out several possibilities.
