Artist name Knor? (signed in the top left hand corner) Looks like a copy of a letter on the back dated 1973 with lots of info? Can anyone maybe tell me what is says,please (just a short summary) Any idea/info in the artist? Frame size 58cm x 79cm. Many thanks

    Unable to read everything, but it's a letter to the writer's brother in law, saying that he won't regret his purchase of this color drawing of the reopening of the Cologne Cathedral in 1948, attended by bishops and cardinals from all over Western Europe. He mentions he paid 500 DM for it and then a few more lines follow that I can't completely understand due to the handwriting. And then there's a complete page that's sort of a puzzle to follow, as at the end of the main text, you have to continue with the vertical text on the left side, and then continue with the vertical text on the right.

    @Marote
    Many thanks. That’s interesting.I really appreciate the reply and your efforts. If I checked correctly then 500DM was about $190 in 1973 (that was quite a bit of money at that time) What would you say is the name of the artist? It’s a watercolour in part right? Some parts of the white paint is thicker? So is it a drawing that was painted/coloured in?

    He also mentions something about 1000 DM, but I'm not sure what, as the text is hard to read in this size and with that handwriting.

    It looks like Knot, but it could also be Knopf with the a looooooong P and the F crossing the date, but I couldn't find any Knot/Knopf from that period :(

    Could well be. There appears to be three different sets of handwriting. The signature, the description on the front and the letter on the back.

    Personally I think the description on the front and the letter on the back are by the same hand ( K,E and D looking letters are very similar to me)

    You may well be right. That would make sense. Written at different times, one contemporaneous perhaps with the event itself.

    It is magnificent. Then again the entire area is a quite nice. And great shopping & restaurants. It is always crowded & during Christmas time it is beautiful. I hope you get to go.

    Thanks. Sounds beautiful and really worthwhile to visit. In a couple of years time we will be moving to our place in Portugal (well that’s sortoff the game plan for now) But once in Europe travelling will be much easier and cheaper.. There’s so many beautiful places to go see. But as always it’s the time and the money that’s the deciding factors.
