How do I determine the age of this edition of the book. There are no dates in it, no issue numbers. Google images gives many different book covers. Searching eBay I find a similar cover for sale in the US that states 1896, a UK listing has no date. I'm not a book reader and knew very little about this one, nor the history. I did not realise it caused so much controversy. Even though it was a US author, Wiki says in 1852, 300,000 first editions were purchased in the US and 1.5 million in the UK
Davey-Think you're dead on w/an 1896 pub date. It was first published in 1852,and along with John Brown's Raid was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the U.S. Civil War in that it brought to light the conditions of slavery to a mass American audience. It was a phenomenal bestseller-think Harry Potter for it's time.It also ran all across the nation as a play.
Google Lens shows 2 with the same image. One with the blue cover like the Ebay version. And one yellow-ish green: This one's from 1896 https://countryhouselibrary.co.uk/products/uncle-toms-cabin-by-harriet-beecher-stowe
