In the current clearance I am doing there is a lot of MOP Inlaid furniture, it's proving a little difficult to remove.

At first, I thought it was Moorish Moroccan furniture, but it turns out it may be Egyptian or Syrian.

Google Images describes this type of chair as Arabesque, Syrian, Damascus, Mashrabiya among other things.

There are 6 chairs, a trifold bedroom blind room divider, 2 sideboards, a book cabinet, two plant stands and chest/trunk

The deceased who I thought was an elderly Polish/German Jew turns out to be a 50-year-old German Catholic whose grandfather was a Nazi and his Grandmother was Egyptian.

I have all the family passports and all of them had made many visits to Egypt over the last 7 decades.

Only 2 photos at present, what do you think.

EDIT> Just realised there are 8 pointed stars in the inlay, this is common in Moroccan, Syrian and Byzantine cultures

Beautiful piece Davey-you find the most amazing damned 'left overs'. Sad how many seniors have no one that cares about them.

Yes, they are mine when I get them out, extreme hoarder, they are buried :D
Some have repairable damage, some of it deliberate.

Lots of Arabic items have deliberate damage.

When I visited Turkey years ago, I stayed in a new hotel.
I commented to the staff that there were brand-new windows and frames, yet every piece had a fault or minor damage.

I was told nothing can be perfect apart from Allah

I've seen the souvenir boxes here, but never a chair. Whoo. That'll kite off if given a chance.

    Beautiful!:)
One of my friends used to repair Syrian inlaid furniture. Whenever I found broken bits and pieces of mop etc that I couldn't use, I'd give them to him.

Having seen a lot of Syrian furniture, I'd guess this was Egyptian.
    :oops::playful:
In Christian and Islamic cultures in general. You see them a lot in churches as well.

I should get all the rest of the furniture out tomorrow.

Today has been taken up by removing books.

Every subject going, history, geography, science, Egyptology, mythology, mathematics, Hitler, languages, religion, in German, English Arabic and Russian.

He must have been the most well-read alcoholic ever.

2 Tonnes taken away for recycling.

    I've only saved a few.

I got the rest of the Arabic furniture out of the house this morning, not shown is the bedroom screen and a blanket chest.
Some of the chairs were damaged, one leg was broken, bits of MOP missing, some of the finials and marquees were broken off, but I found most of the bits in a box.
    Some reupholstery is required.

I just got it loaded in my van when another dealer turned up, my waste/removal man had informed him about the items, with my permission.

A cash deal was done in the street and the furniture was transferred to another van:D

I'm very happy with my deal, I don't have to transport it, clean it, repair it and then store and sell it, plus I'm being paid to remove this stuff from the house.

NICE! I bet the other trader is a happy chappie too. It won't lay fallow for long. If it were here it would be down the road quickly.
