Over the years I've obtained a few of these little "containers". Mainly from my mother and grandmother. Do they actually have a purpose? Pills, Snuff, or just something for old ladies to collect? Have about a dozen more. All kinds of weird markings. Would require a lot of pictures to show all the markings. Some are sterling. Others aren't. Not sure if porcelain or enamel on some. Comments welcome and encouraged. Resized_20241113_070919.jpeg Resized_20241113_070539.jpeg Resized_20241113_070637.jpeg

Sizes would be helpful. The internet says this one is a miniature domino case made of bone. (I assume it's empty or you could have identified it as such yourself.)

You’ve got pill boxes, trinket boxes, snuff and patch boxes. And what look like a couple of vestas.

I have one that was my grandmother's. If I remember right, she kept that diet sweetner pill in it for dining out. She loved her sweets.

You've got a whole motley crew of boxes. I'd bet in addition to Bear's list, there are saccharin and pill boxes in there too. The long skinny one probably held a lipstick tube. That goes double if there's a mirror inside.

You have some nice boxes there. I especially like the one Marie just asked about, plus the one that sort of looks like a pine cone shape and the one dead center (almost has NA looking pattern on top) in photo #1. Do either of those pieces have additional markings?

When looking for identification it's always a good idea to show any marks, and any other views that might aid in determining use or origin - also when posting groups, it's helpful to number them...

Not too sure. It's really lightweight. Like a kind of heavy paper of some sort. The scene has like a clear cover over it with a brass like ring around it. The sides kind of feel like a hide of some sort. Maybe leather.

The Pine cone or cocoon one says china inside the lid. The other has no markings except what's on top. It's really light and very hand made when you look at it through a loupe.

My grandmother had pill boxes like the enameled ones with the roses on them. This was way back in the early 60s, mid 20th c on those ones is likely.

The pine cone may be older Chinese. It would be useful to see the mark and font.

The red on in the 2nd pic upper right was from walmart. They came in a set of 3 and I still have my red one too. That had to have been 1991 or so. What a fantastic collection. I love a box ! In the first pic,is that shell sahped looking one perforated on top ? I thought it perhaps a needle case.
