Interesting, I didn't know that until i googled him just now, he was into long rifles BIG TIME! Some of them are gorgeous, gunsmiths were a BIG DEAL back in the day.

Thank you AJ. My jaw dropped when the price suddenly did. James told me that is how he "steals" some of his beauties. I was prepared to go bid a few times above the original asking price but waited as instructed. James had told me that when an auction has many valuable high end pieces sometimes buyers only focus on these.

Actually my house is an historic house in the City's premier historic district. That being said the city wasn't founded and developed until the late 1880s, and my house was built and first occupied around 1911, so we're not talking really old here. I see many people fill their bungalows with heavy clunky oak furniture in the Stickley/Mission and Arts and Crafts style and I have to laugh. The Chippendale chair will be welcomed by the eclectic mix of old and new pieces that don't represent any style or period but my own. It will lend a graceful curve and elegance to the straight lines of the built in secretary. It be lit by my large, reproduction, stain glass floor lamp and one foot will perch on my antique Kashan hand knotted rug. It will feel right at home.
