    hi folks

bought this nice victorian cane yesterday from my friends house clearance shop.
i'm not sure what the metal is but was told copper (does have that coppery colour/tone)probably that was once silver plated. i don't go along with that but snapped it up for that kind of price (wink)

i think its a beauty, maybe gilded silver or perhaps rolled gold, unsure
found a mark on it today that doesn't make much sense ?

    any comments or info appreciated

it took the attention of an old lady at the bus stop coming home, next thing i knew she had it in her mouth, and said it was brass, so that could be a possibility as well i suppose

"hey charlie, i saw you the other day with an old lady on the top of your walking stick" :)

    Beautiful!
I hope you disinfected it.:yuck: If you rub it you can also smell if it is brass.

i asked how she came to that conclusion, and she said oh i licked it :)

i can't smell anything brassy, just old smelling, but the ol gal seemed to know her stuff

she was mightily drawn to it though, and marvelled at the price, even cheekily offered 21 :woot:

Very nice Charlie. I can't help but notice you have so much nice greenery where you take your photos. Lovely

The 64 could be 64cm if European made.

Have you tried giving it a twist, sometimes these old canes contained a phial or even a sword.

funny you should say that mate as its got a rattle, there does look like a possible ridge at the top

doesn't seem to twist though, unless its seized up

would be cool if it had an inner blade but also not for selling purposes

If it's a sword stick you can sell at a bricks & mortar auction as its antique.
I had a Toledo sword stick once, it realised just short of £5k at auction

It is one way to figure out what's where. I might have hobbled off with that too.

Beautiful stick! I'd say it was gilt brass at some point.

I like the inscription on the handle - "Christmas 1894". Awwww!!
