And who could be the author of this painting? The painting is from 1902, there is some signature.

That's an amateur work. Would be difficult to definitely identify the artist. What part of the world did you find it in?

Or maybe this is some kind of painting in the style of Paul Cezanne?))
Sometimes they drew strange pictures, it’s not clear whether they were amateurish, or some kind of avant-garde, or they were specially simplified)).

    Not the style of Cezanne.
It does have a southern feel, but I would guess northern Italy or somewhere with similar houses and hats.
If you study paintings in galeries or museums, you'll be able to learn whether a painting is quality or not. Many museums have put their collections online.

Well, people like different things from paintings and all sorts of things hang in museums)).There are many strange paintings that hang in museums)).Well, it depends on what style the artist was aiming for.If it's realism, then it's certainly amateur work.

It looks like the artist had studied perspective but had yet to get to figure drawing. The skill level between this and this is quite noticeable.

So the figures seem to be drawn like that on purpose. But it seems like the painting may be amateurish, as if they wanted to make several different painting styles into one picture, I don't know)).

There's some interesting mark making and confidence in the amount of paint used on the brush. They were definitely trying to paint in a style that was popular then.

I almost wonder if the people are other artists out on a plein air group outing with this person? The hats and the one holding a black item above make me think of it. What's the item? Maybe a pencil, charcoal or crayon. You didn't have to be a professional to do an outing, necessarily. Art was considered a good hobby and plein air was popular.

I'm sorry I'm no help on that signature. I can't make it into anything that makes sense. F or J...elh, ilh, eth?

I do like the piece. It has a charm and I enjoy the texture. The people aren't realistic of course, but I like the abstraction of them.

1902 doesn't seem "ancient" to me because I'm 75. Old, yes. Ancient, no. The writing isn't cyrillic so I don't think it was actually painted by a Russian but it still looks amateur to me.

I didn't think of it before, but you're right imo.
I think that is a case of 'lost in translation' from Russian.;)

The guy on the right has a pole like a walking stick or maybe the handle of a farm implement

You're right, it starts at the bottom. Maybe even a rifle?
