What is this? Some kind of incomprehensible drawing, either made with ink or a seal? I can't figure it out, there are some stickers on the back. What is this? photo_2024-11-01_14-21-53.jpg photo_2024-11-01_14-21-32.jpg photo_2024-11-01_14-20-38.jpg photo_2024-11-01_14-20-23.jpg photo_2024-11-01_14-21-28.jpg photo_2024-11-01_14-20-48.jpg photo_2024-11-01_14-31-52.jpg

The subject is the rape of Lucretia by Tarquin, which led to the downfall of the Roman monarchy.
The story is set in Ancient Rome but became popular in the Renaissance period. Several artists made paintings, sketches, and engravings of the story.I think yours is a print of an engraving, but let's wait for the others.

This is the painting related to the engraving:

Is this an 18th-19th century ink drawing? The clothes look more like an engraving from 1801. Although copies of the original clothes were drawn in the 19th century.

Given the text on the back it could be a print from an old book.

It looks like it is a (simplified) version of this engraving by G. Tomba, which was based on the painting I posted above:

From the same link as above.

Well, there is text on the back of the cuttings, but I didn’t notice it on the drawing itself?

I'd think from an old book. With explanatory text also removed and added to back.

I meant those cuttings on the back. They were probably cut from the same book as the print.
