    These were part of a shelf lot & I did not realize they were bookends till I got them home. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Obviously they are meant to imitate Greek columns, but are they suppose to be Corinthian?

    They are 8 5/8" tall.

    The acanthus leaves aren't nearly as prominent as shown in Brad's illustration so you could probably get away with Ionic, but technically they are a less fancy version of Corinthian. Not so over the top.

    Ionic, with a bit of a extra flourish under the cap..............usually found on Corinthian columns...............

    While studying Latin when I was young, this is a way I devised to remember the three different styles of embellishment:

    Doric = "Doris" is a plain girl.
    Ionic = I don't want a ram's horns near me.
    Corinthian = more syllables so more ornamented

    ;) :shame: :rolleyes:

    I don't think they're meant to be any classic form. They look more based on medieval forms to me. They could be souvenirs of some cathedral or cloister or whatnot.

    In Ionic the curls are flush, and there are no acanthus leaves. In Corinthian the curls are at an angle, and there are acanthus leaves.
    Your bookends have simplified acanthus leaves and the curls are at an angle, so Corinthian. Ionians would be horrified at such frills.;)
